The Lowcountry Reads- A Community Conversation About Diversity

The Lowcountry Coalition Against Hate is kicking off its inaugural "Lowcountry Reads" event at the Community Picnic on August 26^th. Find out more about this community event at their booth.

The Lowcountry Reads is coordinating a community-wide read of "The Other Americans" by Laila Lalami. The novel demonstrates how a town with a diverse population of various ethnicities works through its issues to discover the perpetrator of a hate crime. The book covers issues of immigration, prejudice, community and identity, issues that are relevant to our own diverse community.

Copies of "The Other Americans" will be available at Barnes and Noble and our library for community members to read and share.

Community members are encouraged to join the planned community conversation after reading the book. The event will be held at the Hilton Head Library on October 23, 2023, at 5 pm.
